IVF Notes From Reb: Injections & Egg Stimulation

This post conveys MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. We got VERY lucky our first round and I know that everyone doesn’t have it this easy. However, treating this as a personal journal entry and for others looking for hopeful stories, I am going to give my honest opinion about this process.

ivf journey the crystal press

THE WAY THAT IVF IS PICTURED IN MOVIES AND TV SHOWS, I THOUGHT, * I COULD NEVER DO THAT. * SHOTS? NEVER.

When we first found out that we were struggling from infertility, I told myself and my close friends “I don’t think I could ever do IVF.”  I thought it would be brutal on our marriage and my body, and I didn’t think I could handle it.  However, when I found out that was our only option to have a baby of our own, it seemed like a no brainer. I guess my wannabe mom instincts took over and it took practically zero convincing to decide this is the path we would take. It is crazy that the media had warped my perception of IVF SO much that I was convinced I couldn’t do it until it was our only option.

Because of my preconceived notions, I had purposefully learned nothing about the process.  When fellow influencers or people I saw on social media shared their stories, I thought “I’ll never need to know about that.” I actively ignored the entire idea for years. Again, because watching fake couples on tv go through all the rounds of shots and the blow ups and the fights just looked miserable.

The Best Time to Visit Glacier National Park

whitefish lake montana

Last year, antsy after spending months at home during the pandemic, John and I booked a last minute trip out west. Yes, we had been watching Yellowstone and yes, we were obsessed. I asked my IG friends for suggestions for traveling to Montana and a couple people said Whitefish.  I had never heard of it and visiting National Parks hasn’t really been my thing in the past, but we wanted to do something different! SO, I did a little research, we booked our flights and packed our bags.

October in Montana is kind of an in-between season.  Summer is definitely over, but ski seasons hasn’t started up yet.  This meant that lodging rates and park rates would be lower and less crowded.  We didn’t really realize this at the time, but we picked the PERFECT time to go.  SO! I highly, highly, highly suggest visiting Whitefish Lake and Glacier National Park in the fall.

Here are a few tips if you decide to book a trip of your own.

White Boots for All Seasons

Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. You can see us wearing white boots all year round.

*this post was written in October 2020, but has been updated with recent picks for the season.

As I sit down to write this I am thinking * have I already written this blog post? *

This isn’t the first time this thought has crossed my mind and for good reason. While different styles and trends come and go each year, there are plenty of things that remain tried and true favorites for the both of us. Boots, and specifically white boots for the purpose of this list are staples in our closets year round! (See us both wearing different pairs of white boots earlier this year).

Catherine has been rocking the white boots for years now (see her initial post here), and they always take her looks to the next level. They catch your eye unlike any other style of shoe, if you ask me. Something about the white, when paired with darker leggings or tights, or with shorts can be super striking!

Notes From Reb: IVF So far

the crystal press IVF rebecca

I woke up this morning in a little bit of a panic. If you follow me on Instagram and stories you know that I have been sharing our IVF journey thus far in pretty explicit detail. This morning, however, I woke up thinking: what if this doesn’t work? What if we don’t get pregnant this first time around? What am I gonna tell my followers? But after a quick meditation, I realized is that I need to continue taking one day at a time.

Since we decided to go forward with IVF, I have told everyone (including myself) that I am just taking things one day at a time. It’s all we can afford to do at this point. Thinking about the what if‘s is not going to help my emotional state from day to day. And, naturally, my emotional state effects me physically, and right now I need my body to be healthy as I’m growing these eggs.

{ I am currently 7 days into the egg stimulation process – which, for me, means one injection in the morning and two at night with bloodwork + ultrasound monitoring every other day. }

So, knowing that, this blog post is probably going to be a bit jumbled I just wanted to say some things on here before I forget. Honestly, I have so much to say, but for now I’ll try to keep it short-ish and as sweet as I can 🙂

You guys know that Marc Fisher makes some of our very favorite shoes. From my signature white combat boots that have made frequent appearances over the years, to their cult classic espadrilles – they simply make the best.

When I saw this white pair on the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale I knew I had to have them! My old faithful boots will still get a lot of play but the heel is a bit higher, and I needed something for more everyday wear.

Wedding Guest Edit: Zebra Print Maxi Dress

This would make the perfect dress for fall weddings or special events.

ASOS Design Maxi Dress The Crystal Press Fashion

It feels GOOOOOD to get dressed up again. Like, really good. If you’re like me you really leaned into loungewear over the past year and a half and LOVED IT. I have bought more sweat suits, knitwear and t-shirts than ever before and fully leaned into making the fashionable. Because I do truly believe you can make a LOOK out of sweats.

BUT, as of late, I have been really excited to get dressed up, create new outfits and have just generally rediscovered my love for styling. I reallyyy felt it when I wore the orange dress to my sister-in-laws rehearsal dinner a few weeks ago, and the momentum has kept up ever since. I got really excited for our shoot with Halle of Wild Heart Creative, because it had been a while since Catherine and I created content together just for fun.

Spotlight on: Orange Wedding Guest Dresses

Is Orange your color? Have you never worn it? If you said yes to either answer, this post is for you.

[ this post was written in August 2021 but edited with updated selects in August 2022]

ORANGE WEDDING GUEST DRESS

When I took to insta-stories with an ASOS haul to help me figure out what to wear to my sister-in-laws rehearsal dinner, I was blown away that so many people loveddddd the orange dress option! If you’ve been a follower around here for any amount of time, you know that I tend to stick to black or neutrals for basically all of my clothing.  But lately, I have been inspired to branch out with new colorful pieces, and was so glad I decided to add this orange dress to my cart as an option for the rehearsal dinner. The $30 Amazon Dress You Need In Your Closet

this $30 amazon dress is the perfect addition to any closet

marc fisher rebecca piersol

YEP, YOU READ THAT RIGHT. $30. I first shared my love for this dress over on my personal blog, Sartorial Meanderings, at the end of summer. And whaddya know, I just couldn’t resist getting it in another color!  Ever since I saw my girl Laura Leigh of Louella Reese wearing the blue version, I knew I would add it to my wardrobe eventually! I have gotten more compliments when wearing the blue version than I have on any piece in a while. Who knew that a simple $30 dress could end up being one of the cornerstones of my fall wardrobe.

I won’t go on and on about it too much, but just trust me, y’all.  It comes in like 15 color and print combos, is the perfect midi length, lightweight and comfortable, perfect for layering and can be dressed up or down! Style it with a cardigan in the fall or sandals during the summer. I don’t try and force purchases on you guys *that* often (hehehe), but I’m really pushing you on this one here! Anyways, let’s get to how I styled it this time.

Reb’s Favorites: superdown Cropped Tops from REVOLVE

As you guys can see, I am on a HUGE crop top kick. I just love how they can be dressed up or dressed down, layered or stand alone as the basis of an outfit. My current favorites are superdown from REVOLVE. I shared a few favorites last month in this post, but since then I have added a few new favorites to my collection.  They were all perfect for my recent Vegas trip, and they will all still be in play once fall rolls around and I can throw a sweater, blazer or button down over them.

Here are a few of my current favorites:

Levi’s 501 Mid-Thigh Shorts

rebecca piersol levis 501 shorts

To be honest, I am usually more of a comfy pants even in the middle of the summer. Quarantine truly spoiled me and I am all about the comfort these days.  BUT, when I packed completely wrong for our trip to Key West and basically wore these black Levis 501 Mid-Thigh denim shorts every day, I fell in love with them.  I have always loved the classic Levis 501 style in jeans and these shorts are the same! They are perfectly high rise, and I love the extra length.

There’s nothing worse than jean shorts that ride up your butt, amiright? The black pair are sold out all over the internet, but light and dark blue denim wash are available and trust me when I say you need to ADD TO CART.
