Check out Our Favorites at NYFW SS 16
by The Crystal Press at Mode
Stay tuned for a full travel post from our New York trip, but for now – here are our latest loves from #NYFW Spring Summer 2016.
I wholeheartedly agree with Catherine when she said in her last post that she is a true summer girl. Fall is right around the corner, as everyone keeps reminding us, but it is still humid humid humid here in Richmond so my favorite summer dress (slip) and Frye braided sandals are still in play. This slip is one of the most versatile pieces that I own and it has traveled with me from Charleston to Jamaica to Florida and back this summer and it is currently packed in my suitcase for NYFW. It comes in 12 (!!) colors.. so what are you waiting for!?

Labor Day weekend has come and gone and as memorable as it was, I am having a hard time not thinking about summer coming to an end. We have 11 days left until the Summer Equinox and I feel like I need to make a bucket list to celebrate the end of one of my favorite season, just to be sure I cover all of my summer must-do bases. I can appreciate bundling up next to a bonfire in a chunky knit or cheering on Virginia Tech Hokie football as much as the next person, but it is hard to compete with the joy that summer brings to me. After all, what’s not to like about the long, sunny days & the way a Corona tastes in the heat of a summer? Here’s to appreciating this beautiful season for the next 11 days!

When I got these Sam Edelman Fringe booties from Shoebox last week, I knew I wanted to recreate this all-white w black shoes winter look from earlier this year in New York. I have no shame in admitting that these are the same white jeans from the February get-up, as they are a staple in my wardrobe along w my trusty Louis Sully bag. So, here we have the its-almost-fall-so-I-can-wear-booties version of the white on white plus black thing.
(Side note: Yes I know, summer is coming to an end and its not quite labor day yet but for the record the no white after Labor Day rule has been thrown out the window with many other fashion faux-pas that I do not agree with).
This is basically a never ending blooper, but the good news is we are test driving YouTube for the likes of a makeup tutorial. Stay tuned, peeps!
Over the course of the summer, I have been dabbling in Marie Kondo’s book “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up” in an attempt to get my room & wardrobe organized once and for all (aka I am a recovering hoarder.) Marie’s solution to this conundrum consists of making sure everything I own brings joy & has a designated place in my abode. As you can imagine, applying this principle is quite challenging when dealing with all things related to my wardrobe. I have come across so many pieces of clothing that I haven’t worn in what feels like forever and I almost never can find it in me to get rid of these pieces despite my attempts to learn this Japanese organization method. Instead, I do the complete opposite of what Marie Kondo intended by adding my lost and found collection into the mix of my everyday attire with a different style. By different, I don’t mean anything strikingly profound. I simply mean I tie a knot somewhere in said piece of clothing. My mantra for the summer should have been “tie a knot in it” because this has come in handy countless times over the past couple months. My point is knots are a great way to change up something you already own for multiple wears. Shop this maxi from old faithful Forever 21 below and pick up these Belle by Sigerson Morrison flats at the Shoebox in RVA!
PS I’m not giving up on this organization method! Stay tuned for future progress notes on my tidying project.

Since I got engaged last year, I have been collecting white dresses (as some of you may have noticed). From Free People to Alice & Olivia to this beautiful Milly number, I have collected quite a few and i just cant stop wearing them! This was a favorite on my honeymoon and I know it is sure to be a staple in my closet from now on – because, who says you have to stop wearing white after your wedding day? Hopefully no one.
ps. I haven’t taken off this OCIE New York Trina Triangle necklace since our party last week! Make sure to check out Sarah’s other beautiful pieces.
We have been so busy lately and wanted to let you in on a few of our recent events so scroll away, lovelies!
A few teaser photos from Reb’s wedding! Still anxiously awaiting the lot from J&D Photography but they have given us a few sneak peeks! Bet you can’t tell which ones they took and which ones we did……..
Veuve & something blue are mandatory wedding day staples.
Here are some details from our soiree with Sarah Littlejohn, the designer of Ocie New York.
Sarah gave us a delicious rosè called “Summer In a Bottle” from Woffler Vineyards in New York. As if the bottle were any inclination, this is a great wine.
Last but not least, our selfie with The National RVA and our delish rosè we enjoyed at Rappahannock before the Brandon Flowers concert on Aug. 11. If Brandon tours to a city near you, make sure you take full advantage of the opportunity and go see him. He puts on a helluva show.
