We’ve been there.

We started our blog in 2015, and within months we were working with major brands on huge collaborations and partnerships. For years, we worked during all of our free time on our fashion blog, The Crystal Press, doing what we thought we should be doing. We were making money and running a successful blog.

We didn’t even realize we were burned out until we went to create our class The Ultimate Guide to Getting Paid To Be Yourself. We took a step back and realized that we had strayed from our original blog goals. The class includes exercises for new bloggers like finding your mission statements and your WH.Y When we revisited these exercises ourselves we were a little mind blown. Without knowing it, we had caved to the pressure of comparing ourselves to others and put ourselves into the mold that instagram had created.

SO, we basically took our own class as we created it and along with the exercises there and the ones you will find here, we emerged two pretty different creators. Our personal blogs took off as we realized our individual passions, and The Crystal Press has evolved as well.

There is life outside of instagram. There is room on the internet for you to reach your full potential, and get paid to do so! We can help you get back on your inspired path with the help of a few easy exercises.

Take a YOU Day – This is basically a summary of all of the above. If you are lucky enough to have personal days from work, or feel like playing hookie, taking a day off during the week can do wonders for the soul. Book a massage, sit by the pool with a good book and end the day with a meal at your favorite restaurant.

Cleanse your house, space, and spirit with my personal sage smudging routine.

I am a big believer in smudging you house with sage. I do it at least once a month around the moon phases.

Some people doubt it’s effects by calling it a placebo but ya know what, placebo or not – I don’t care. I don’t care because every time I sage a space – my house usually – the energy feels magically different. SO much lighter. Placebo or no placebo, smudging my house with sage is always worth it.

Before I sage my house, I open a window or a door. The reason for doing so is because I want to have a place for the unwanted energy aka the negativity to exit. Once I have a clear pathway for the negativity, I hone in on my intention. Generally, I am intending to clear the space, release what no longer servers me, and to bless it. If I feel stuck about something in my life, I will add this into my prayer while saging as well.

My sage prayer usually sounds something like:

Dear God,

Please cleanse this space for the highest good of my family and all that come in contact with our beautiful home. I release into this smoke all energies that do no serve me, all negativities that surround me, and fear that limits me or my family. On Heaven as It is on Earth.

Amen.

Once I have gotten clear on my prayer, I use a special candle to light my sage. My favorite candle is from Etsy and it is a Reiki charged candle for Harmony. As I intentionally sage my house, I hold my prayer in my minds eye and gently guide the negative energy towards to exit path I created for it.

Be sure to be attentive while saging and to use a plate, shell or a special ash catcher to catch the dust or embers from the sage. When you are finished, put out the sage and thank it for cleaning your space. Simple, sweet, and magical.

With staying at home becoming the norm, making your everyday luxurious at home is an art you can’t ignore. Here are some of the ways I keep my days feelin’ luxe at home without having to do any heavy lifting.

Faux Fur Throws: A faux fur throw is not only soft AF but also brings an element of glam to your space. Layer it over your favorite rug or throw it on your couch for extra texture. This white faux fur throw is in the front room of my house. I love seeing it immediately when I walk in!

Designer Coffee Table Books: While I have a slew of iBooks on my iPad & iPhone, I am a big collector of actual books and a big believer in the frequency of the ones I keep in my house. Designer coffee table books are no exception and are one of my favorite ways to add luxury to my home. For example, this Tom For coffee table book is luxe and larger than life. Chanel Le Coton Extra Soft Cotton Pads: You had me at cc monogram. Every time I see these in a dish in my bathroom, I think to myself – is the cc for cathclaire or coco Chanel? Yes, the cotton is extra soft and takes your bathroom decor to the next level effortlessly.

Luxurious Hand Soap : I am all about making hand-washing a spa like experience. In fact, I want everything at home to feel like a spa like experience LOL. Could this be more relevant than during 2020? My favorite luxe hand soaps are Diptqyue & Aesop.

Hang Eucalyptus in Your Shower: Speaking of spa-like experiences, hang eucalyptus in your shower to make your house smell amazing and to make your shower more relaxing. The smell is intoxicating and stress reducing!

Unique Glassware: Whether you are in the mood to dress up your lemon water or your favorite at-home cocktail, unique glassware is the best way to upgrade your next drink. I love to peruse my favorite home stores (CB2, West Elm, Verishop) and fashion bloggers table-scapes for inspiration. My latest glassware purchase were these amazing glasses for espresso martinis from CB2. and they exude luxury for a whopping 8 bucks. They are on back order right now, but CB2 has lots of great options.

Four Seasons Hotels Bed Pillows : Talk about the key to a blissful sleep. When I found out that Four Seasons Hotels is now selling their pillows, I was ecstatic. Now every night while I sleep, I have a little bit of my favorite luxury hotel in my dreams.

Velvet Curtains: Velvet is glamorous and luxurious, and what better way to add it into your home than with curtains? We have black velvet curtains in several rooms in our house and hung higher than the window, they make quite the statement. Our curtains are from amazon BUT when you hang your curtain rod higher than the window, the window will look bigger, and the curtains themselves will look much more high-end without the monetary investment.

Candles: Candles are fastest way to upgrade your space. I am big into jasmine candles right now. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Volcano Capri Blue candle from Anthro and the fashion blogger fave Baies from Diptqyue but the jasmine candle from Target has really got me feeling the luxe vibes since we moved into our new home. I always have one lit and have every size they offer. This jasmine bouquet candle is just so yum, you can’t beat the subtle floral ambiance.

Last but not least – I highly recommend having a bottle of your favorite Champagne always on hand, ready for something fabulous to celebrate! Cheers to making your home feeling more luxurious, I hope you liked my tips!

While we have semblances of spas around the Richmond area, we always thought that Richmond just isn’t blessed with a hotel with a killer spa by any means.

Enter: Scents of Serenity Organic Spa.

This beautiful spa with three locations around Richmond (including the brand new Short Pump location) might as well be attached to a luxury hotel. They have EVERYTHING a girl could need for a long, relaxing spa day. We know because we experienced it first hand and feel like new women because of a day of Scents of Serenity’s massage, facials, aromatherapy, and reflexology. Our massage therapists and Estheticians were knowledgeable, informative and extraordinarily talented!

We can’t wait to get back there very soon because we are dying to try the infrared sauna. If you decide to book a service at one of their locations, be sure to tack on a session in the infrared sauna!

COVID edit : We felt so safe the entire time we were at the spa. We wore our masks for the entirety of our treatments, aside from the facial. The lounging areas are currently closed due to COVID and we can’t wait to go back and take advantage of these lovely spaces once this is all over! If you feel safe going into public during covid, you will certainly feel beyond safe here.

Escape the city safely, to relax and recharge at Getaway House

John and I went to Getaway House for the first time last summer, right when he got out of school.  It was the perfect way to kick off the summer.  This year, we decided to go right before he goes “back to school” even though that will look different this year. We have both been working our butts off for the past month and the Getaway was MUCH needed.

Back in June when we were reminiscing about our 2019 visit, I thought this would be the perfect chance to escape the city and have a mini vacation during the pandemic, as long as they were up and running and using safe protocols. Sure enough, Getaway has adapted to the times and is using extra safety precautions when preparing for its guests.  Naturally, the entire experience is socially distant, with the cabins situated apart from each other and if you don’t want to see anyone else during your trip, you definitely do not have to.

We love the perfect little cabins, with a mini kitchen, bathroom and shower and the outdoor space with a fire pit, picnic table and chairs. Like last year, we spent hours reading, playing cards and simply enjoying each others company without any outside distractions.  As a blogger who is constantly on social media or my laptop, this break from everyday screens was so, so needed. Sure, I took plenty of photos because of how picturesque Getaway House is, but I stayed off the ‘gram as much as possible.

Before we checked in to check out at Getaway House, we visited Early Mountain Vineyards, which is just a short drive down the road.  Early Mountain has some of our favorite wine in Virginia and we always enjoy our experience there! It was the perfect way to kick off our vacation. Since they aren’t doing tastings, you can choose from three flight options, and of course enjoy wines by the glass and bottle! We both opted for the rose flight and a bottle of Petitillant Naturel afterwards. I had been seeing this wine all over the ‘gram this summer and it did not disappoint. They also have a full sit down restaurant experience with fresh dishes for you to enjoy with your wine. Highly recommend EVERYTHING! (More on how our favorite wineries are dealing with the pandemic coming to the blog next.)

On Monday, our full Getaway Day, we started off lazily by making breakfast and reading for hours and hours.  After John went out for a run, we decided to get out of the house and venture to Shenandoah National Park for a hike.  We went later in the day, so we wanted something that was going to be quick, but adventurous and fun.  We decided to hike the Bearfence Mountain Trail, which was basically one giant rock scramble on the way up, and an easy hike on the way down. It was the perfect little excursion! From the top viewpoint you have a 360 degree view and WOW. Next time, we would probably opt for a longer hike, but this time we were enjoying ourselves too much at the house to get out in time.

We are already dreaming about our next Getaway, and have vowed to make sure we get there each summer.  I would also love to experience it during the cooler months, because I imagine its delightful to stay cozied up in the cabin for a few days.  There are currently 11 Getaway locations, check and see if you have one near you and start planning.
