We LOVE layers. Year Round. No Question.

BUT, layering in the summer can be tricky tricky, especially when it gets super hot and humid, like it has been in Richmond lately. We love to have the option to wear tank tops and shorts, and skirts, but even on the hottest days, we both tend to reach for a top layer.

Our favorite pieces for summer layering are cover-ups and kimonos. Who said cover-ups can only be worn at the beach? Certainly not us. They can help you look cool, while staying cool. Not only do these flowy pieces help you achieve an oversized look, but they also add dimension to any outfit. We have a handful of neutral options – like black and white, but a pop of color can be fun to jazz up any look.

From simple white cover-ups, like the ones we are wearing in some of these photos, to tie-dyed and funky kimonos, we have rounded up some great options to layer your looks. Not surprisingly, Free People has a bunch of great kimonos and I recently added this tie-dye one to my rotation – see the pic below! Other favorite sites like ASOS and Revolve have some great options as well!

The great thing about these layers is that you can continue to rock these looks once the temps get cooler and we transition into fall. You can keep the summer vibes going but still have a practical, comfy look. Another great reason to shop for kimonos and cover-ups as we transition into fall is that many of them are now on sale, including some of the ones we rounded up below.
