We recently stopped into local Richmond shoe boutique The Shoe Box to talk with owner Roma Marshall about how she curates her shop and of course get her take on fall’s emerging shoe trends. I think we can all agree that fringe is everywhere and Roma was raving about it!

“2015 Fall was like going to a Rodeo. Fringe, Fringe everywhere. As an accessory on a shoe or a bag, I think it is fabulous and ageless. Especially with the 70’s and boho vibes going on right now.”

Reb picked up the Sam Edelman Fringe Booties (see how she styled them here) and they are sure to be a staple on her feet this fall.  Other trends we see are the Sky High Boots & BLING. “Girls will never get tired of embellishment,” Roma reminded us “I have found season after season, I can’t have enough bling in the store.” Cath picked some Belle by Sigerson Morrison studded flats proving that to be the case. They are perfect with a basic maxi and will definitely be one of her go-tos for everyday wear!

Since opening the shop in 1996, Roma has been incredibly particular about what she decides to carry. “My vision was to try to bring something for everyone into this store. Its a small store so it has to be edited. So I go to the shoe shows and try to pick the best of the best. I’ve always been obsessed with detail and I’ve always been obsessed with accessories. It’s always been my passion…I love seeing women who are dressed – be it a pair of jeans and a t-shirt with a great pair of shoes, or a great piece of jewelry. I am inspired by women looking the best they can possibly look.”

It is so refreshing to hear her zeal for her work and we love how she made her dream a reality and is still loving every day of it even after 20 years!
“The day I go to the shoe shows and I look around and say ‘I don’t want to do it anymore’ then I’ll be done. But I went with a broken foot In August and I still got excited about the shoes. So that’s the best part – saying ‘here is my vision’ and I hope that everyone is as excited as I am.”

Another reason that makes the Shoe Box unique is the community that Roma has created as a local boutique.  “What I love is that the moms will come to buy something and they bring their kids who pick out some Sam Edelmans. So we are catering to two generations at a time.” And she adds: “That’s not to say that I didn’t get that Fringe Boot from Sam Edelman this season, cause I did. He is doing amazing things.”

To reiterate what Roma said, there is something for every fashionable girl at the Shoe Box. Become a part of the local Shoe Box family and treat yourself to something new this Fall!
