From Dulles to Doha to Denpasar. We moved from Virginia to Bali and here is how we got here with a toddler! Strap in, folks, its a long one. 

We have been living in Bali for a few weeks now, and even though I haven’t yet written a blog post about WHY we moved to Bali, I wanted to write this one first while it is still fresh in my mind. 

SO, here is *logistically* how the four of us traveled from Virginia to Bali. Spoiler alert: it took us 3 days.

We priced out our options with our friend & travel agent, Ally from Lensvue Travel, and decided that it was best to drive up to Dulles and fly to Bali by way of Doha on Qatar Airways.  The flight times worked better this way than flying through Dubai, which was the other option when flying East to Bali. My mom traveled with us in order to help us get settled, and we had my dad drive us up to Dulles to help us with Olive and all of our luggage. We each had an allotted 2 bags plus a carry-on and personal item. So here is the baggage breakdown:

Checked luggage:
3 Large Suitcases – we love our AWAY BIG suitcases.
3 Tyvek Bags (do not recommend, the straps ripped when being handled by airline staff)
2 Black & Yellow Bins
1 Thule Running stroller in a bag stuffed with assorted other items (FREE!)

Carry-on:
2 Roller Bags
1 Backpack
1 Small Duffle (Olive’s “diaper bag”)
1 Small purse (kept passports and tickets in here for easy access)
1 Travel Stroller bag (free!)
1 Car seat (Olive used it in her seat…some)

We left Dulles around 9pm, which is the perfect time to leave with a toddler. They do this on purpose, of course, so that you are able to catch some ZZZs on the flight. The flight was 11 and half hours to Doha, and since we took advantage of getting on during pre-boarding that meant we were on the plane for 12 and a half hours. I would say that the flight went about as well as to be expected.

Olive slept on and off in her car seat and on me for about half of the flight. We bought THE travel car seat, the Cosco Senera Next, which is super lightweight and easy to install on planes and in cars. We carried it through the airport in a car seat travel bag and hooked it with these giant clips to the stroller, which made it easy for carrying.

They serve dinner on the flight a few hours after take-off which is nice but also annoying because they keep the cabin lights on for quite some time.  This really bothered me on our 7 hour flight to Europe because it took almost half the flight, but I realized that’s just how it goes. I think John and I got around 5 hours of sleep, but my mom had a really tough time sleeping. They served breakfast a few hours before landing and by then we were anxious to GET OFF the flight.

I brought all kinds of books and games and what not on the flight, but I’m not going to lie, there was a lot of screentime. And don’t be fooled by the above photo. Olive does NOT like headphones. She would watch the TV screen on the plane with no sound (LOL) and either my phone or her tablet at a volume only she could hear.

We landed in the beautiful Doha airport around 430pm that time, which was a bit tricky, but not impossible! We decided to take a 24 hours stop over, leave the airport and go to a hotel so that we could all recharge (and run around) before catching the next 9+ hour flight. Ally booked us at the Park Hyatt which was about a 15 minute car ride from the airport.  It was LUXE and just what we needed. My mom is staying at the Oryx hotel at the airport on the way back and I will report back on if that option is just as good. No doubt it will be more convenient for her purpose.

It was a bazillion degrees in Doha, so we didn’t get to do as much exploring as we had hoped, but it was still reaaaaally neat to see a place so different from home. AND from Bali.

The Doha airport is one of the most beautiful in the world! It had these awesome play places for kids all over the airport.

We left Doha around 5pm the next day. This flight was a little trickier, because we were all so anxious to get to Bali. Olive was awake for the first 3ish hours and then slept most of the rest of the way. I would say I only got a few hours on this flight, but luckily it was only 9 hours, which really made a difference in comparison to the 11 and half the day before.

Once we got to Bali, we had a lot of logistics to figure out as we were moving here! You have to do this thing with declaring and registering your phones which was a real pain in the you-know-what because we were all ready to just BE HERE.

But we made it through, found the driver that the school had set up for us and most importantly all of our baggage made it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We stayed the first night in a hotel in Bali, which was really nice. After we checked in, we slept for a few hours, went and took a walk on the beach, had dinner and CRASHED. Most importantly, woke up the next day and were ready to get to our new home!!  We had been *un-homed* since May, so getting settled in was first on the agenda.

you can officially call us NASCAR girlies. Thanks to the new Richmond Raceway president, Lori Waran, we jumped on the NASCAR bandwagon this year! Lori has made sure there is a place for NASCAR women in Richmond and we couldn’t be more thrilled.

We were so excited to attend our first NASCAR race in her president’s box this spring. It was a night race which was SO cool to see. We saw the sunset over the track right before it started, and because it was a little rainy that day we also caught a rainbow just before the cars started their engines off as well.

We don’t get to “get out” as much as we used to, so when we do, we get excited to plan our outfits! I had to go shopping in my own closet (Bali spending freeze), and knew it was a graphic tee and denim kind of occasion. I’ve linked our exact outfit details along with some other pieces that the track inspired!

As you can imagine, we weren’t the only ones excited to be invited to the race. John & Kevin were thrilled that we chose to bring them along for the ride with us for once We all had such a great time. We got to go into the Drivers Meeting before the race, hear the pre-race prayer and see all the drivers! It was such a unique experience.

I recently went to Madewell to find some new jean shorts and was shocked at the quality for the price point! They have so many great options and I was thrilled to walk away with two new pairs. (RELAXED MID RISE && PULL ON PAPER BAG). Highly recommend if you need to add a couple pairs to your closet this summer.

Sets! Sets! I love sets!

They just make getting dressed too easy. Plus, ya know, they are pretty fairly priced!

I have had some bad experiences buying from Amazon recently – even after reading reviews! So whenever I find something I really like from Amazon, I like to share it with you guys.

Enter: two chic, comfy sets for cooler months.

This style black set is a classic that has been floating around “going viral” for a couple of years. However, I have tried to buy this style set and been the material was notttttt comfy. I think I have returned 3 or 4 different ones! SO, if you’re looking for a set that can be dressed up or down, worn out or in, THIS is the one you’re looking for.

I am usually one for pants over skirts any day, but there is something about this skirt set that caught my eye. And I just love how it looks IRL, too! It would be perfect for work and can seamlessly transition to drinks and dinner with a little accessorizing.

Bring the western vibes with Beth Dutton style for Halloween, or simply just to bring the vibes and the hype for the final episodes of Yellowstone.

This post has been the most popular here for a few years, but I keep it updated with current picks!

From the moment we started the first episode of Yellowstone last year we were hooked. To the characters, the western vibes and Montana. The reason we decided to go out west to Whitefish & Glacier was because we were seeking the Yellowstone vibes and landscape. It did not disappoint!

Without a doubt, the most badass character on the show is Beth Dutton and her entire ethos has had me riveted from day one. I love how she fully embraced ranch style once she left the city to come work with her family at Yellowstone. Its a nonchalant, yet super western chic look and truly a vibe.

I didn’t necessarily try to emulate any single Beth Dutton outfit, instead just picked out some pieces that felt like her style to me. This faux fur coat from REVOLVE is sold out but they have a bunch of other great options and I love this one from The Drop on Amazon, too! You need faux fur it in your life regardless! It helps to bring the main character energy aka that Beth Dutton energy during the cold months. I chose to layer the coat here over a slip dress, because that is one of Beth’s go-to pieces, slinky pieces that hardly leave anything to the imagination.

While I took these photos, I didn’t have a *real* cowboy hat yet, so I just grabbed this affordable one from Amazon. I love it.  (I have since added a real Stetson to my collection and you can see that in my *Casual Beth Dutton Style* post. )  The boots however, are real cowboy boots that you can’t get online, but I have linked some gorgeous options from Dolce Vita below!

When we got the email that LAKE was partnering with Blair Eadie for an Atlantic-Pacific x LAKE Collection, we were thrilled. We immediately texted each other to say how stoked we were to see the designs. As LAKE partners, we get to choose a few pieces to try from each collection and choosing which ones we wanted for this was SO hard. I swear, we both stared at the line sheet for hours trying to decide.

It’s just that good.

We were both immediately drawn to the rainbow pieces! Cath decided on the pajama set and I went for the robe. They are like rays of sunshine in our closets (and drawers). We chose the poplin pj sets this time, but of course they have the classic PIMA Cotton pajamas in a special Atlantic-Pacific color combo as well.

We were so excited to bring our pjs with us to our recent trip to Primland’s Auberge Resort and snapped some pix in our cottage. Stay tuned for more photos and video from the trip, it was a good one and the pajamas really brought up the morning vibes.

As always, we only share things here that we REALLY love. So trust us when we say that everything LAKE is worth the price tag.

If Beth Dutton had an everyday uniform, I think that this would be it. Call it a costume or call it western-inspired style – whatever it is, here it is

Last year I shared my most visited blog post to date, which was how to recreate Beth Dutton’s style for Halloween.  I chose the big fur coat look and for a whole year you guys have been repeatedly visiting the site.  Is it Beth Dutton’s not give a F attitude or just that we love western inspired style? Maybe both!

So, since you guys seem to like this style, I decided to share a more casual look that I have actually just been wearing as an everyday outfit.  Not a costume.  But it would certainly do perfectly as a costume! You can shop your own closet or add some new pieces to recreate this look.

FLANNEL

A fall classic, a ranch must have.  A comfy flannel is a wardrobe staple.  I LOVE this Free People one and have been wearing it on REPEAT since I got it recently.  If you want something more affordable, there is always Amazon.  I like to wear my flannels open over a tank or a crop and have been living in my SKIMS as the middle layer.

COWBOY BOOTS

Ranch Road Boots are the best. Period. If you are looking for a real pair of cowboy boots and are willing to spend the money for authenticity, these are just the best! The quality is unmatched.  If you want a pair of fashion- cowboy boots *as I call them* Dolce Vita has a good pair.  Amazon of course has cheap pairs if you just want the style and not the authenticity.

HAT

For the first Beth Dutton costume, I just grabbed a cheap hat from Amazon. It did the trick for the costume, but I didn’t really wear it otherwise.  Last year when we went to Steamboat I decided to finally get a *real* hat, and got myself a Stetson. It definitely makes me feel like Beth on the reg.

JEANS

A good pair of jeans really can make you feel great.  I came to truly appreciate my love of jeans during pregnancy when I couldn’t wear them, lol.   I LOVE this Abercrombie pair and you also can’t go wrong with a pair of classic Levis.

I recently jumped on the band wagon and started shopping on Amazon.  Specifically, I tried the Try Before You Buy feature to test out some of their sweater dresses.  I gotta say, I was so pleasantly surprised. Maybe even blown away! I figured Amazon stuff was cheapy and wouldn’t be soft or comfy. I was WRONG!

Here are four of the dresses that I 100% approve of from my Amazon order.  I am wearing a size small and am 5’4″ 120 for reference These would all be great for your holiday parties and gatherings of any type! You could dress them up with heels and a blazer, or dress down with jeans and sneakers.

Pink Queen Women’s Loose Turtleneck Oversize Long Pullover Sweater Dress

This dress arrived shrink wrapped which definitely threw me off initially, but once I opened it and put it on, it was love! It is super soft, comes in over 20 colors AND it has pockets.   I love this wine color for the holidays! It would be perfect with black tights and boots, or if you live in a little warmer climate, a pair of heels.

ZESICA Women’s Long Sleeve Solid Color Waffle Knitted Tie Waist Tunic Pullover Sweater Dress

This waffle knit dress can be styled with or without the tie! This one seems a little less formal to me, so I think it is fun to style it with sneakers, or even over a pair of jeans! It is just long enough to be worn on it’s own but also short enough to be good over jeans and leggings. It comes in over 15 colors. This one also arrived shrink wrapped, but once you steam or throw it in the dryer the creases come right out.

I originally ordered the blue in this dress because it was one of the only options for Try Before You Buy, but once it came I was pleasantly surprised at the color IRL.  So much so that I decided to keep it! I had a few friends order this one in black for Thanksgiving and just raved about it.  This one also comes in over 20 colors, and when I say its SOFT, I mean REALLY soft.

Last but not least, this one is my favorite! I love a good cut but my biggest concern is usually my color – especially since going *all over* Platinum blonde. I wasn’t doing an updo or anything with my hair for my wedding so my color was the star of the show. Melody made my dreams come true. Like seriously, people still talk about how good it was. She was the first lady to take my hair all over platinum and I tell ya what, she is a helluva a stylist who can get you super blonde while still protecting the integrity of your hair!
