Spotlight On: Hair Accessories

Who else is having a flashback to childhood seeing all of these awesome hair clips out there right now?!

I first noticed when Sincerely Jules came out with her collaboration with Scunci, avail at Target, that pins and clips were making a come back! I am notoriously bad about “doing my hair” so personally, I am loving this trend because it helps me do something interesting with my long locks instead of just throwing my hair into a bun! I ordered some pearl clips off of Amazon and TBH you get what you pay for, because I bought like 10 for $20 and they did not hold my hair very well. So, I liked a few more quality clips for you guys, if you want to jump on the trend! I also plan on ordering a few sets from the Sincerely Jules collection, to take me back in time to my ballet days with bobby pins galore.

The Crystal Press Pick for Spring: Kitten Heels

Catherine and I have a habit of showing up on days to shoot coordinating, inadvertently twinning! While we definitely have our own personal styles, we tend to gravitate towards the same pieces and trends. In this case, I took a page out of her book when I saw that she has been rocking her J’Adior Kitten Heels. For years I have shied away from this style shoe, thinking that the higher the heel, the better. But lately I have been reaching more for my sneakers and less towards my heels, so I figured I would take a stab at the kitten heel after long last.

So without further ado, here are some trends / pieces that I am loving for spring. (more…)

Travel Diary: Austin, TX

Last week I was lucky enough to tag along with John on a trip to Austin, TX! He was attending SXSW EDU, and I have been wanting to visit Austin for quite a while so I jumped at the chance to join him.  Ok, I was also easily convinced because he booked his stay at Four Seasons Austin and it’s impossible to say no to FS.

Unfortunately, we were there during the only days that the temp was in the 30s and 40s so lots of the recommendations we got were not ideal, but we still got to hit some really great spots! Aside from staying at the Four Seasons, the highlights of the trip were having lunch (twice) at Joann’s Fine Foods, shooting with Divina Stennfeld, having burgers at Dean’s One Trick Pony and catching up with a few friends that we have in Austin!

Spring Layering in Austin, TX

SALE ALERT!

This dress is currently on sale for $20!! TODAY ONLY!!

When John and I were in Austin, the weather wasn’t exaaaaaactly what we had imagined.  When we booked our trip we were thinking we would be escaping to sunny Texas from cold Virginia, but we were oh so wrong!! The weather was exactly like at home, and every single person we talked to said “you know it’s never this cold here!”  I even had to postpone my shoot with Divina, because we didn’t think that being out in the 30 degree weather would be fun for either of us. Luckily, it warmed up by our shoot on Wednesday but I was definitely glad that I packed layers!

Step Out In A Spring Suit

So excited to share some of my looks from Austin with you guys!! I had so much fun with Divina bopping around near the Austin Motel in order to get some iconic shots from the eclectic Texas city.  When I was shopping for this trip, I decided to step a little out of my comfort zone with this white striped suit. I honestly have never worn a “suit” before, and usually struggle to make blazers work, but when I put this one on I fell in love.  (more…)

Black Basics Every Girl Needs

When I posted this look on instagram, during my time at The Homestead, I called attention to the graphic tee and asked if anyone knew what l’avenir meant in French without googling it.  A graphic tee is a great conversation starter (and caption topic) because it clearly stands out and is the featured part of this look.  So often, we have statement pieces that become the focus of our looks – whether it’s Cath in her big hat or a sequin dress, or the both of us in a gorg faux fur coat. We tend to gloss over the basics, because they are staples that we tend to reach for on the daily.  SO, let’s not do that this time. Let’s talk about two pieces that every girl needs to have in their closet.  (more…)

Feminine Maxi Dresses for Any Season

I have to admit that when it comes to choosing dresses for any occasion, I tend to gravitate towards simple, neutral pieces.  It gives me room to add my personality with shoes and accessories, but sometimes even I surprise myself!  When I was looking for dresses to bring to The Homestead to celebrate John’s birthday, I scoured my favorite go-to sites like ASOS and Free People for the perfect option.  My closet is full of black sheaths, maxis and slip dresses but I am admittedly tired of those for the time being! I found this lilac dalmation printed dress on ASOS, and I can’t really pinpoint why it struck my eye, but I felt so feminine and flowyyyy dancing through the halls of my favorite resort all night (and the next day!)  (more…)

High Street Collection at Eyemart Express

This post was sponsored by Eyemart Express but all opinions are my own.

I have worn glasses since the third grade, so honestly I don’t remember what life was like before them!  Over the years, my use of contacts has dwindled more and more, and I really save them for special occasions or if glasses are not an option (aka skiing, skiing, skiing).  Glasses have become a way for me to express my personal style and my collection just continues to grow.  When Eyemart Express reached out, sharing their new High Street Collection, I was so excited to collaborate.
