Why I Invest in Designer Brands

This post originally appeared on Sartorial Meanderings in October 2019, but I have updated the links and my favorite designer pieces with more current photos!

OKAY GUYS, LET’S GET RIGHT TO IT.
I have been wanting to write this post for a while, especially because I see so many bloggers out there constantly posting about “dupes.”

When I say “Why I Invest in Luxury Fashion,” I don’t necessarily mean at designer prices.  Lots of my designer pieces are consigned from The Real Real, Tradesy, Poshmark, eBay and my current favorite, Mercari.  What I should really say is that I like to buy quality over quantity.  I realized a few years ago that the number of pairs of shoes or bags that I bought was absurd in comparison to how long they lasted me. I was spending hundreds of dollars a year on pieces that simply wouldn’t last. I thought I was being savvy by shopping from fast fashion retailers, but in reality I was spending the same amount of money on all of these crappy items as I would on a few quality, designer pieces. So that’s when I bought my first used Louis Vuitton off of Tradesy and asked for Gucci Slides for my birthday. (pictured below)

Spotlight On: Chic Shorts for Summer

move over denim, there’s a new shorts style trending this summer.

rebecca piersol shorts summer style

I have NEVER been a shorts girl.  I have had my fair share of denim shorts over the years, some that I have liked okay.  But, to me, they just are not comfortable.  Even my favorite One Teaspoon pairs can get uncomfy after a few hours.  I am alllll about comfort these days, especially after living in loungewear for a year, so when I started doing some shopping for new summer pieces, I was on the hunt for shorts that were chic, but comfortable.  I hit the jackpot with these two pairs from ASOS and they have been on repeat now that the temps are warmer.

Reb’s Favorites: gorjana jewelry

gorjana rebecca piersol

I first posted here on the blog about gorjana last summer, and since then, my love affair with the brand has only grown deeper and my collection has grown to an almost absurd amount of pieces.  I wear a combination of gorjana necklaces and earrings everyday and love changing up the different layers and earing combos to match my outfits and my moods. To get a feel for how I love to mix and match, check out this reel.

How To Style Anine Bing Graphic Tees for Spring

anine bing tshirt

Anine Bing t-shirts have been a staple in my wardrobe for years! I am a sucker for designer t-shirts,  and pride myself on being able to find Gucci & Saint Laurent tees secondhand at “reasonable” prices, but when it comes for best bang for your buck, Anine Bing takes the cake. The quality is as good, if not better than luxury designer tees and the price can’t be beat! These tees are $99 and will LAST.  I have had the one shown in these photos for almost two years and it has seen some major wear. But it is in excellent condition!

Honestly, I wear graphic tees most days of the week, year round so investing in quality pieces is absolutely necessary.  I am about to add a few more of these styles to my cart & continue to grow my collection and I highly suggest you do the same if you are a t-shirt addict like me.  SHOP my picks below & keep scrolling to see my favorite ways to style the tees for spring. From afternoon strolls, to chillin around the house, to running errands and heading out for dinner with your girls, I’ve got you covered with plenty of pieces to pair with the Anine Bing Graphic Tees.

Summer Style Edit: Dreamy Dresses

here is your big summer style round up: the dreamy dress edition

We are starting to work on some other exciting projects on The Crystal Press, and aren’t always able to bring you new and different outfits each week, because, that’s a lot. So, instead we are going to be bringing you our style blog posts per season, with a few big blog posts, where you can find all the optoins you need for each seasons best pieces!

SO, after getting tons of responses from you guys on this Free People dress that I wore in Key West, I decided to kick off the summer style edit with dreamy dresses. Perfect for vacay or the backyard, we all love a good flowy dress. Summer is a time where I rarely stray into fun and funky pieces so putting together this dress round up was super fun and I even got a few for myself. (Excited for this H&M number to come!)

Spotlight on: Jumpsuits for Spring

it’s that time of year again! living in comfy, stylish jumpsuits.

I took these photos last year during quarantine, and wow, it feels surreal to revisit them almost a year later. These were my second attempt with my trusty best friend – tripod and they hold a special place in my heart. I literally just set the self timer and started dancing on my back deck. Pollen in my hair and all. It was extremely cathartic at the time, getting outside and creating. I remember the feeling all too well! (read my musings from the time on sartorial meanderings here.)

Four Seasons Philadelphia At The Comcast Center

four seasons philadelphia

In September 2019, John and I traveled to Philadelphia for the Rock n Roll Half Marathon – a warm up for John for the New York Marathon! It had been a while since we had both been to Philly – 5 years, I think – and we were excited to go back.  I saw that the new Four Seasons Hotel in the Comcast Center had opened a few days before, and as a treat to Johnny, I decided to book one night at the luxury hotel.  We have had so many great Four Seasons experiences and were excited to check out the new property. To say it was stunning is a gross understatement.

To get to the hotel, you enter through the lobby of the new Comcast Center and take an elevator up 60 floors. YES, 60 floors. From the grandiose 60th floor lobby you have a 360 degree view of the city and beyond. I have never seen anything like it! There is an excellent lobby bar and restaurant on the 60th floor, which has incidentally become the new hot spot in town.  You don’t have to be staying at the hotel to grab a drink above Philadelphia and experience the view for yourself.

Notes on Body Positivity from Reb

a friendly reminder that there are imperfections behind every instagram post and every blog post and alllll the beautiful photos.

body positivity reb

When I received this set and another in the mail from Stronger a few weeks back, I tried them on and immediately felt BLAH. I do NOT look like all the other girls on the Stronger instagram page and website in these sets. I have a weird, short torso (remember this) and I’ve got a little extra love in some places that don’t look that great in this set. BUT, I decided to roll the dice and see how it looked in my shoot with Halle. After all, this set perfectly matched the color scheme for the shoot.

While we were shooting, I definitely did not feel my most confident and quickly rolled thru these shots in order to get through to the good stuff. When I got the photos back from Halle, at first I was upset and a little embarrassed. The sitting pose was nottttt flattering when it came to my stomach and the way the shirt rolled into the leggings and so on. I thought I could not possibly share these with the brand, they would straight up reject them.
