October on The Crystal Press

We have worked on some seriously cool projects this month! I can’t promise this type of round up post is going to happen every month, but in case you missed what we’ve been up to – here’s a summary of our goings-on this October.

Technically, we went to the ballet at the end of September, but it felt right to start off the post with this magical evening! We attended the Richmond Ballet’s 35th Anniversary Performance and it was truly brilliant. The performance included pieces from favorite ballet’s over the past 35 years of the professional company, interviews with past and present choreographers and dancers as well as a brand new ballet.  This was just the beginning of their 2018-2019 season and it was the perfect start. Up next is their Studio One show, running November 6-11 with 9 performances.  We are going to be at the Thursday November 8th performance, so grab your tickets and come spend the evening with us at the ballet!

In case you haven’t been following along with us during October, we’ve been a part of a variety of campaigns involving Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We have both, unfortunately, had this disease effect those close to us so this is a cause we jump to support each year. One of these campaigns was working with eBay and CFDA, wearing these boob tees to promote Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. It’s not too late to grab one of these tees for yourself to help support a cause that means a lot to us.

Another Breast Cancer Awareness campaign we helped to promote during October was withe Cape Cod Chips! Read our full post on the project here. This was a seriously tasty collaboration (sorry…. I couldn’t resist).

We might be nearing the end of fall wedding season, but it never hurts to have inspiration! I wore the black number that I wore as a bridesmaid in Catherine’s wedding to my pal Hunter’s wedding in September and when I was looking for something to wear to a wedding this weekend, I ended up down a rabbit hole of great black dresses to wear as a wedding guest! I’ve rounded up some favorites, that could also be great for fancy holiday parties or even NYE. WOW. I can’t believe I just mentioned NYE. Are the holidays seriously sneaking up on anyone else?! YIKES!

Last, but certainly not least — October has been Virginia Wine Month in our great home state.  We posted about some of our favorite wineries to visit earlier this month and in case you missed it you can find them HERE! Sad to say our October has been craaaaaay busy so we haven’t made it out to any of them this month but we are planning a trip ASAP.

Breast Cancer Awareness with Cape Cod Potato Chips

Ever since the creation of The Crystal Press, a priority for Catherine and I has been to aim to inspire others. Often times, yes, we post about our favorite clothes and trends, or trips we have taken, but we also want this to be a place to share other things as well.  Each year around this time, with Breast Cancer Awareness on the mind, we are reminded of another reason that we created this blog and that is GIRL POWER.  We hope that by sharing our inspiration, style, travel; the struggles, the ups and the downs, we will inspire other women to do the same. Blogging can be a great platform for expressing yourself in whatever way you see fit and that is one of the reasons we love it so much!

On that same note, when October rolls around, we jump at any opportunity to spread awareness about brands, companies and events that are participating in campaigns to help fund Breast Cancer research! You read our post about Words With Friends, and we are excited to partner with Cape Cod® and call attention to their limited release flavor Pink Himalayan Salt and Red Wine Vinegar Potato Chips! For each bag purchased, Cape Cod® will donate 5% of the proceeds (up to $25,000) to the Susan F. Smith Center for Women’s Cancers at Dana-Farber. High-quality, tasty snacks for a good cause? Pretty much a dream combination! So run, don’t walk to find yourselves a bag and join us in supporting a cause so close to our hearts.

Thanks to Cape Cod® for sponsoring this post! All opinions are our own.

Pink Tiles with Words With Friends for Breast Cancer Awareness

Every October on The Crystal Press, we like to be involved in Breast Cancer Awareness month and choose to work with companies giving back to this cause as much as possible. Not only is this cause important to us as women but it is also near to our hearts because Catherine lost her Aunt (slash fashion icon) to breast cancer a couple of years ago. In addition to being one of her favorite people ever, Catherine’s Aunt Mary was responsible for giving her, her first magazine and instilling a love for expressing individuality through fashion at a very young age. That being said, she is one of the reasons The Crystal Press exists today and we think about her on this journey very often.

When we learned that Words With Friends 2 (yes that addicting app that is a digital word game) was partnering with Susan G. Komen to raise awareness for breast cancer – we were immediately on board. No pun intended. The game is launching “pink ribbon tile” in addition to their usual yellow tiles in support of the cause. What does using this “pink ribbon tile” have to do with finding a cure for breast cancer? Well, when you use these pink tiles and tell your friends to do the same, you are helping unlock a donation of up 100k in support of finding the cure for breast cancer. Whether you have someone in your life that is affected by breast cancer or simply see the importance of the cause, help us donate up to $100,000 by screenshotting your pink tile game play and tagging @wordswithfriends to let us know why you are supporting this cause near and dear to our hearts!

Spotlight on: Sneakers!

Sneakers. First of all, for my whole life until now, I have always called sneakers, “tennis shoes.” I have surprised myself by coming around to the widely accepted term as of late. One day recently, I just woke up and started saying sneakers. In any case, I could not be happier that sneakers are everywhere these days.  Ever since we decided to “dress down” last September at Fashion Week and wear comfy shoes while prancing around the city, the love affair has grown and grown and grown. From the Vans that John got me for Christmas, to Catherine sporting her new fave Nikes, we are wearing sneaks on a pretty regular basis.
