Guatemala 2.0

IMG_6188 A few weeks ago I went back to Guatemala with my husband, 15 high school seniors and another one of our teacher friends. Our trip last year was one of my most memorable trips ever and this year boasts the same! From the amazing parades through the streets of Antigua during Semana Santa, to the unforgettable views at Lomas de Tzununa, Guatemala is such a breath taking country.  Time for me to share a little iPhone photo journal journey with y’all. Apologies for ze quality, as the Nikon didn’t get to make the trip with me.

We always start the trip in Antigua, and I absolutely love all the colorful streets, tiendas on every corner, stumbling upon a great local restaurant and the enthusiasm of Antigua’s residents.  Plus, coffee, coffee, coffee! This year we got to work with the de la Gente co-op and see what it is like to pick, sort, roast and grind your own coffee beans.  We of course rounded off the day with a fresh cup of joe from said fresh ground beans.

We spent the day in San Juan admiring gorgeous paintings, meeting and hearing from local weavers and of course, shopping. A trip to Guatemala wouldn’t be the same without coming home with a new painting or two and something beautifully hand woven.

The gardens surrounding the hotel have sky high palm trees, flowers and hammocks to make the stay even that much more enjoyable! You could routinely find me in the hammocks morning, afternoon and night enjoying a cup of tea or an ice cold “coca-cola-light.”IMG_6591
