I am not traveling for the holidays, but when I think about dressing for them, I start to feel something similar to packing panic. Packing panic is when I remember at the eleventh hour a commitment that requires packing and is followed by clothes thrown all over the floor, with nothing to pack. A scenario similar to this occurs when I don’t plan my holiday wardrobe well, except instead of having nothing to pack, I have nothing to wear. While experiencing panic is super fun, this past year (a.k.a. the year of the traveling Catherine) hasn’t left me much time to indulge in panic pie, and holiday dressing is going to be no different.

The year of the traveling Catherine has forced me to ditch my panic and adapt a maximum-impact, minimum-effort style of outfit planning and packing. This mentality allows me to dress in a way that doesn’t sacrifice style or precious time, which, during the holidays could be spent with friends or family. To begin this newfound outfit-planning process, I like to establish a “blank canvas” consisting of clothing pieces that are staples, multi-wearable, and along the same color scheme. I then accentuate the versatility of the staple pieces with accessories that make a stylish impact.

My holiday outfits that will be in rotation this year are all black and full of different textures to create more character. After deciding my color scheme, I chose a fringed shift dress with the perfect V-neck and a pair of high-waisted, leather-ish leggings as staple pieces to build my looks around. Before you start thinking black is for a funeral, please look at the amazing pieces I found at Target! Black is my favorite color to wear, and it allows for so much mixing and matching since I have so much of it in my wardrobe. Given the craziness of this month, this is the color scheme that worked best for me. Lastly, I snagged this faux fur scarf that takes any outfit to the next level!
